The wines:

The offer leaves nothing to be desired, from a wonderfully fragrant Sauvignon Blanc to the palatable, stimulating Selección Especial to individually grown grape varieties from special sites and mature wines, everything can be found in the wine cellar of the Domaine. Here are my favorites:

Pago Valdebellón:

This wine with a great personality has been produced entirely from Cabernet Sauvignon variety grapes grown on a limestone-rich terroir blessed with its own microclimate. After a thorough maceration, it undergoes 24 months of aging in new French oak barrels. The result is a wine with an intense dark red colour that – despite its heavy body – releases a delicate air of sweet spices, exotic fruit and mineral aromas. Its persistent black current bouquet is a mark of its breeding. Overall it is a complex and generous wine with a long aftertaste.

Pago Garduña:

This single vineyard wine was produced exclusively with Syrah grapes. The vines are planted in bright, white limestone soil in the middle of pine trees that protect the vineyard from strong winds. The grapes produced here reach perfect ripeness levels. It displays a deep, dark color with black cherry tones, and the nose reveals a spicy, floral bouquet and an explosion of red berry fruit aromas. Smooth and elegant on the palate, this wine is amazingly expressive as well as powerful and very well balanced, followed by a lingering finish. A wine burdened of pleasing surprises.

Pago Negralada:

In the single vineyard wines they seek to bring out above all the true character of the terroir. Pago Negralada comes from a plot of Tempranillo, the noblest Spanish grape variety. The vines are planted in deep gravel soils intermixed with sand at the surface, and produce wines with a distinctive firm, tannic character. Having aged 24 months in new French oak barrels, the wine has now developed its full potential. Its full ripeness comes to the fore with layers of fragrant strawberry fruit, liquorice, herbs and minerals with soft, silky tannins on the palate. With its great ageing potential, this is a wine for the long haul.

The cultivation area:

The Duero Valley is an important production area in the Castilla-Lèon area around the town of Valladolid and is a strong opponent of the leading Rioja. The finest wines have been produced here since the 19th century, but it was not until 1982 that this area was awarded DO status. The most frequently cultivated grape variety is Tempranillo, which is also called Tinto or Tinta del Pais. The wines of Abadia Retuerta grow on different soil types, which produce strong power wines as well as elegant and structured drops.

A place to feel good and to linger. Abadía Retuerta impresses the wine world with its innovations and its renowned Spanish wines. You can feel the nature in every drop.
