“After the victory you deserve it, after the defeat you need it.” Napoleon Bonaparte 1769-1821

Where does Champagne come from? Sure, everyone knows this, from France from the vineyards of Champagne! I will not waste many words on that.
The Champagne house Louis Roederer has its headquarters in Reims, it was founded in 1776 and has been family-owned since 1819. It is one of the last independent Champagne houses. Roederer produces around 3 million bottles, including the famous Cristal. Now, a different type of wine has been created, a cuvee has been born from the collaboration with Philippe Starck, based on the authenticity and integrity of the growing region. The vineyards were analyzed very, very closely. In doing so, respecting the particularities of each of the 410 parcels of wine country in order to preserve their uniqueness and to optimize them through soil improvement, cutting, foliage, and sunlight on the grapes. This high attention to detail and standards based on research, done to respect the growing region, is in the image of Louis Roederer’s philosophy. The wines reflect this: upright, pure, and the finest expression of the flavors of each parcel.
This close connection with nature and the peculiarity is preserved in each parcel.
This is where the result of the encounter between Louis Roederer and Philippe Starck is experienced.
No vintage is like the other.  The 2006 stands out for rare maturity and fullness of flavor. Some champagne base wines’ aromas are so generous, complex, and full-bodied, that it is not necessary to give the liqueur d’expédition for rounding off the flavor, and so this Brut Nature was created. My immediate impression after the first sip was just WOW! Steel clear minerality, fresh acid,  fine bubbles raised as to the pearl necklace. The yeasty aroma discreetly in the background yet powerful pear notes, which are immediately stimulated by a creamy aftertaste to the next sip.
Actually, this champagne stands on its own and you need not serve, but you really do want, to combine with a fine foie gras or smoked wild salmon. Whether for an aperitif or with dessert, this champagne brut nature meets all the requirements.
